Can you bake frozen cookie dough without thawing?

There’s no need to thaw frozen drop cookie dough in order to bake your cookies — in fact, we don’t recommend it. Start by preheating the oven slightly lower than the temperature called for in your recipe — about 15 degrees F lower.

When baking frozen cookie dough, you do not have to thaw the cookie dough. Simply place the frozen, pre-scooped cookie dough onto a baking sheet and bake for 2-3 minutes longer than the original recipe recommends.

Freeze for up to 3 months. Once you are ready to use the dough, transfer the wrapped dough to the refrigerator and let it thaw for 24-48 hours until it is soft enough to roll/slice.

The frozen dough can be defrosted by following the steps below:

  1. Use a microwave safe plate and spray with cooking spray or line with parchment paper.
  2. Place the frozen cookie dough on the plate.
  3. Cover with microwavable plastic wrap.
  4. Microwave for 10 seconds on the defrost or 30% power setting.
  5. Check the defrosted dough.

With the sugar cookies—which are made by rolling the dough into a log, then slicing it into rounds—we found that freezing already-baked cookies left them dry and crumbly when thawed. We had far better results when we froze raw slices of the log, then baked those direct from the freezer.

How long should you bake cookies at 350?

Place one baking sheet at a time onto center rack of preheated 350 degree F oven. Bake until cookies are golden around the edges, still have pale tops, and are soft in the center, about 8 to 10 minutes. (Do not overbake! They will firm up more during cooling.)
